Fun Fact! Did you know more than 1.57 million children are at a risk of dropping out of school each year due to poverty?
Did you also know that a further 50% of the same number is at risk of dropping out when transitioning to high school?
This is where Golden Generation comes in with the Angaza Nasi program!
What is Angaza Nasi?
Angaza Nasi is a transformative community outreach program run by Golden Generation designed to identify and nurture exceptional sports talent among children from marginalized and underserved communities. The name “Angaza Nasi” means “Shine With Us” in Swahili, symbolizing the program’s core mission — to provide a pathway for hidden potential to be discovered, developed, and celebrated.
The main aim of Angaza Nasi is to break the cycle of limited opportunity by offering full scholarships that include professional sports training, access to education, health care, nutrition, and mentorship. Through this program, children who would otherwise be left out of structured development systems are given the chance to grow into skilled athletes, confident leaders, and empowered members of society.
When was Angaza created and who came up with the idea?
Angaza Nasi was created in March 2024 by the Board of Golden Generation, following a deep reflection on the barriers facing talented children in marginalized communities. The idea was born out of a collective realization: that raw potential exists everywhere, but access to opportunity does not.
The board recognized that many children with extraordinary athletic and leadership capabilities were being overlooked simply because of their socio-economic background. Inspired by the belief that talent should never be defined by circumstance, we designed Angaza Nasi as a focused initiative to bridge this gap — to not only scout for hidden talent but to walk the journey with these children all the way.
Who Qualifies for Angaza Nasi Program?
Angaza Nasi is designed for children between the ages of 7 and 14 who demonstrate outstanding potential in sports but come from underserved or marginalized communities where access to structured training, education, and personal development opportunities is limited.
Currently, we have 11 young players who have been fortunate enough to be selected, with the organization sponsoring their journey to success. These players, all from humble beginnings, are provided with holistic support that goes far beyond the football pitch.
Ideal candidates are children who:
- Show natural ability, passion, or drive in sports such as football, basketball, and skating
- Come from low-income or vulnerable backgrounds
- May be at risk of dropping out of school due to financial constraints
- Exhibit strong character, discipline, or leadership potential
While the selection process is inclusive and community-driven, all qualifications are subject to the official policies and criteria outlined by the Golden Generation Angaza Nasi Program. This ensures transparency, fairness, and alignment with the program’s mission. Final selection is based on talent assessments, community referrals, and a needs-based evaluation conducted by the academy’s outreach and scouting teams.
Impact of the Angaza Nasi Program
Since Golden Generation is anchored under Impact, here are some of the impact we intend to achieve under the Angaza Nasi Program:
1. Impact on the Lives of the Players
Access to Professional Training: Players will receive top-tier coaching, access to modern training facilities, and the chance to develop skills that may lead them to a professional sports career. This exposure could open doors to joining elite football teams both locally and internationally.
Educational Opportunities: By offering education sponsorships, the academy ensures that players not only focus on sports but also develop academically. This dual support prepares them for life after sports, providing them with career options even if they don’t pursue their specific sport professionally.
Health and Nutrition: Players from disadvantaged backgrounds often lack access to proper healthcare and nutrition. Through the program, they will receive regular medical check-ups and balanced meals, ensuring they are physically fit and healthy, thereby improving their overall well-being.
Character Development: Players will learn essential life skills such as discipline, leadership, teamwork, and time management. These qualities will help them succeed both on and off the pitch.
2. Impact on the Community
Role Models for Others: As players rise through the ranks of Golden Generation Sports Academy and achieve success, they will serve as role models to other young people in their communities. Their achievements will inspire others to pursue their dreams despite socio-economic challenges.
Community Engagement and Development: The program will also involve players in community outreach initiatives. These players will return to their communities to mentor younger children, run football clinics, and promote the values of education, discipline, and teamwork.
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty: By offering scholarships and sponsorships to young athletes from marginalized areas, the academy provides a tangible way to break the cycle of poverty. As these players succeed, they are likely to uplift their families and contribute positively to their communities.
3. Long-Term Impact on Kenyan and Global Sports Arena
Elevating Local Talent: The exchange program ensures that players from underprivileged backgrounds, who might otherwise go unnoticed, are given a chance to shine on the national and international stage. This influx of talented players will elevate the standard of sports in Kenya, and around the world.
Nurturing Future Leaders: Beyond sports, Golden Generation’s program is focused on developing responsible, educated, and driven individuals who can contribute to society in various ways. Whether as sports people, coaches, or professionals in other fields, these players will have a lasting impact on Kenya’s future.
